Sunnyside Beach Park in Steilacoom, WA

Yesterday my family went to Sunnyside Beach Park in Steilacoom, WA, to meet with a friend and go hunting for beach glass for our first time.  It's a beautiful little beach with sand and rocks, and we spent over three peaceful hours walking along the beach, playing in the sand, searching for sea glass, watching the tide go out, seeing the train go by, looking at the jellyfish, barnacles, little crabs, seaweed, and enjoying the beautiful scenery.  We also took time to eat a picnic lunch there, but it was a very small picnic lunch due to the crows getting into our bag and eating three sandwiches and starting on another!!!  So if you visit there, be watchful of your lunch. :-)

My daughter looking through a barnacle shell:

A beautiful jellyfish:

It was fun to see the tide go out. This is a later picture
of the same jellyfish. See how the much farther the
water is away from the jellyfish in this picture?

A closeup of the same jellyfish:

Seaweed!

Feet buried in the sand:

A train and a view of the beach:

Below is a picture of our lunch that the crows got into
(and ate most of) while we were walking on the beach.
My daughter said there should be a sign up that says,
"Beware of crows. Leave lunch unattended at your own risk."  :-)

Looking for sea glass and other ocean treasures:

Some of the beautiful treasures, including sea glass, that were
collected! My son said that each piece of sea glass has a
story behind it. ♥

  1. Thank you for posting this. Your pictures are so nice. I just came across your blog via Google. I think I'll visit Sunnyside Beach Park today as I am right outside of Steilacoom.

  2. Oh, thank you so much! I really hope you enjoy your visit! :-) Just in case this might be helpful, I want to add that Sunnyside Beach Park has a $5/vehicle parking fee for non-residents. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that the fee kept me from visiting that beach for awhile, but I'm so glad I finally did! It's a really beautiful place.
